DescriptionNew styles in furniture appeared in the Qing dynasty (1644-1911), the last imperial rule in China. Elaborately designed expensive pieces like this yoke-back armchair were beautifully carved in good hardwood, possibly the popular huanghuali, commonly called rosewood. Usually, pairs of armchairs graced formal reception halls and pavilions of family homes for welcoming visitors.
