DescriptionInterior genre scenes such as this are very rare and this one is likely southern in origin. An African American family in a cottage interior with two figures dancing, an older woman in a rocking chair and a man playing the banjo. The room contains objects typical of the period: a shelf clock, a Kentucky rifle, a second banjo hanging on the wall and simple furniture against the white stucco walls; the reverse with depictions of cows and other farm animals.
