Ange-Jacques Gabriel

BiographyCollaborated with his father, Jacques Gabriel V, on the Place Royale in Bordeaux in 1729. Ange-Jacques Gabriel succeeded his father as 'contrôleur' of Versailles in 1735, and as 'premier architecte du roi' and director of the Académie royale d'architecture in 1742. He retired as 'premier architecte' less than a year after the death of Louis XV, but he remained as director of the Académie until his death in 1782.
