André-Vincent VielliardFrench, 1717-1790, active 1752 -1790

Figural painter. Andre-Vincent Viellard, père, (1717-1790) was born in Paris and worked as a fan painter before entering Vincennes in 1752. During his first two decades at the factory he was principally employed as a painter of children in landscapes, copying engravings by or engravings after Boucher. At first these were only painted in white reserves. From 1758-69 he chiefly painted Teniers scenes like Dodin, Caron, et al., but was the least skilled and moved on to landscapes with few or no figures. He painted numerous vases in the 1750s, but by the 1760s was mostly working on tea, service, and useful wares.
