DescriptionThese elaborately carved door frames were made in Guangdong province as noted by an inscription on one of the frames. A favorite decorative scheme on these architectural elements was birds and flowers signaling success and harmonius living. These pieces were purchased by Mrs. Hong from a Japanese dealer in Los Angeles in the 1940s. They decorated one of the Hong properties, the entrance hall of the bank on Broadway in Chinatown, now an architect's office. One of the pieces was displayed in the Huntington exhibition "Chrysanthemum on the Eastern Fence," August 2006-January 2007.
