Label TextBoth functional and highly decorative, these candelabra are two of the most impressive gilt bronzes in the Huntington collection, with their elaborate design, intricate construction, refined modeling, and brilliant finish. The design includes figures of female fauns, heavy vine garlands, fruiting ivy wreaths, and satyr masks, all alluding to lighthearted bacchanalian pleasures. The delicate branches, which once would have held candles, sit atop vases blued to imitate the precious stone lapis lazuli.
