Label TextThis is one of two small landscapes (#78.20.9A and 78.20.9B) showing views of a celebrated Parisian garden. The Parc Monceau is famous for its garden follies and architectural pavilions, including a classical rotunda by the renowned architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux, seen in the painting at left. Hilair specialized in views of people enjoying the parks and public gardens of Paris, blending landscapes and paintings of everyday life to create charming vignettes of contemporary Parisian leisure.
