Benjamin MarshallBritish, 1767-1835

Benjamin Marshall was born in Seagrave, Leics., November 8, 1768 and died in London, July 24, 1835.

Marshall initially worked as a schoolmaster and did not begin his professional artistic career until the early 1790s. From 1795 his practice was based in London, but he gained a large provincial audience through engravings of his paintings published in The Sporting Magazine. He moved to Newmarket in 1812 to be closer to a center of the racing community, and returned to London in 1825. Injuries suffered in a coaching accident in 1819 hampered his later production.
