Label TextBelieved by Henry Huntington to be a portrait of French actress Mademoiselle Dangeville, this marble bust is more likely a combination of several 18th-century motifs, executed in the 19th century. The loose drapery and grape garland in the figure’s hair indicate that she is meant to represent a bacchante, a devotee of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine.
