Label TextCarved architectural decorations, such as this rather ferocious eagle, is among the earliest examples of surviving sculpture in America. With its gnarled talons and expertly defined feathers, neck, and head, this eagle is a fine specimen of wood-carving traditions in early America and comes from a house built in 1815 in Cape Vincent, New York.
