Credit LineThe Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. Gail-Oxford Collection
Label TextWith its spare, octagonal top, vase-shaped pedestal and long-curving legs ending in spade feet, this candle stand is typical of furniture produced in the Neoclassical style, which was fashionable in America in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The table would have held a candle and been placed beside a chair to provide light for reading, sewing, or writing.
