Label TextDr. Kyo Koike (1878-1947) was the central figure of the Seattle Camera Club and an internationally-renowned Pictorialist photographer. He was a vocal spokesperson for Japanese-American photographers in the 1920s and 30s, primarily through the SCC’s newsletter Notan.A man of many talents, Dr. Koike was also a poet, naturalist and mountaineer. This latter talent is evident in Between the Trees. The artist said he enjoyed Seattle’s mountains—like Rainier and Baker—because they reminded him of Mount Fuji.
