Label TextDe Loutherbourg catered to the popular taste for uncomplicated rustic subjects. Here, a team of horses drawing a wagon awaits its passengers outside a country inn while a man in a blue shirt climbs a ladder to add another bag to the load. At left, a female servant and a male traveler on horseback engage in a mild flirtation, injecting a bit of playful romance into this pleasant scene.
