Label TextA comparison between Huntsman with Rifle and Kensett's painting The Shrine-A Scene in Italy provides clear evidence that he used these costume sketches as source material for larger works. The painting, illustrated below, reproduces the drawing of the huntsman in reverse, with a slight variation in the placement of the figure's feet.
